The Multicultural Centre Coordinator is the manager of the Multicultural Centre at the Lakehead University Student Union and is responsible for its day-to-day operations. They provide a welcoming space for students to learn about cultural diversity on campus. They are to provide resources that empower and support students who are experiencing oppression related to race and culture.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Oversee and facilitate the day-to-day operations of the centre.
Provide peer assistance and referral services to students.
Advocate and lobby within the university and Thunder Bay community in order to raise awareness of issues faced by international students and students from diverse backgrounds.
Supervise volunteers and staff of the centre, including hiring, training, and termination of centre staff.
Plan, develop, and implement the development of educational campaigns related to intercultural issues faced by students.
Plan, develop and implement events for social connections of students.
Promote the centre, its services, and all campaigns both within the university and the community at-large.
Manage the centre’s budget and ensure that all expenditures are within it.
Apply for appropriate funding and grants in order to augment the campaigns and programming of the centre.
Develop and execute campaigns related to diversity and multiculturalism, including World AIDS Day, International Development Week, Black History Month, International Women’s Day, Elimination of Racial Discrimination Day, and participation in World University Services Canada.
Submit regular reports to the LUSU Board of Directors.

Qualifications and Experience:
Priority will be given to multi-cultural applicants from the student population;
Familiarity with and passionate about the mandate of the Multi Cultural Centre;
Demonstrates professionalism, strong communication skills, and leadership;
An understanding of and willingness to learn about current issues regarding challenges faced by racialized students, international students and students from diverse backgrounds.
Experience in engaging, recruiting, and coordinating volunteers;
Experience on social justice campaigns including those relating to the multi-cultural community is an asset, as is knowledge of anti-oppressive practices;
Ability to work independently or cooperatively with others;
Digital skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Instagram, and Canva.
