The Newly Rebranded Outpost is looking for a new Head Chef
The Outpost is a Monday to Friday restaurant located at Lakehead University serving students, staff, and faculty. Our operation is currently focused on Lunch, Snacks and Dinner. We are looking for an experienced, creative, and passionate Head Chef to join our team.
During this pivotal time for The Outpost, you will be responsible for helping create our new food identity in 2022, and onwards. You will design a new menu that will serve the ever-evolving student body at Lakehead University.
As Head Chef, your main duties involve running the back-of-house. You will manage the daily operations of the kitchen, oversee the kitchen staff to ensure that the highest quality of cuisine is served to our guests, and ensure that all food and labour cost goals are met.
LUSU and The Outpost would also like the new Head Chef to form relationships with local and regional food purveyors and producers to better extend the local authentic Thunder Bay experience to international and visiting students.
Head Chef Duties and Responsibilities
Create new recipes and design the overall menu, including weekly specials
Coordinate and direct food preparation, from prep through service
Monitor and ensure the quality of all food and beverages
Track, record, and maintain inventory of stock including foods, beverages, and kitchen supplies
Order and arrange weekly pickup/delivery of foods and ingredients
Hire, train and manage kitchen staff
Work with the events committee to creatively serve visiting and domestic events utilizing the unique space and opportunities of The Outpost.
Work within the established framework to better serve the student public
Maintain a clean kitchen and follow all municipal food safety and sanitation laws
Other duties as assigned
Head Chef Requirements and Qualifications
Culinary Management Diploma / Journeymans Red Seal preferred
3+ years’ experience in a head chef or managerial kitchen position
Safe Food Handling certification
Extensive knowledge in culinary arts, including up-and-coming food trends
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Proven leadership and creative abilities inside the kitchen

$55 000 starting wage with room to grow in the position
